Hello Spring!

I had the pleasure of having a fun flower and photo session with Rachel May this past March.  It came just in time to help chase the winter away.

The life of a floral designer is very focused on the rhythm seasons with loads of events in the spring and fall and lulls in the summer and winter.  The lulls tend to be filled with all the necessary but mundane tasks like paperwork, general housekeeping and lots and lots of proposals interspersed with flower jobs and photoshoots to keep you inspired.

Working with Rachel was without a doubt much needed inspiration!  Her photos are so beautiful it is was a real challenge not to post every single last one of them.  I have likely overshared here, but I hope you'll a agree they are worth it.  Enjoy!
Jasmine, garden roses, hyacinth, lilac, hellebores and willow eucalyptus.  Let's just say this bouquet smelled heavenly.
Getting this wild bouquet to stand up is practically a feat of magic!

Hellebores Love

I have been completely neglecting the blog for.....uhh-umm, YEARS.  I am going to do my best to turn over a new leaf and actually share, share, share using a blogging platform!  You can also always connect with me on Instagram or Facebook.

My flower muse as of late have been hellebores.  I have been trying to take advantage of them while they are still happy.  They prefer cool weather have been known to bloom in the snow.  In the garden, their blooms are shy and grow downward facing so they can be easy to miss if you are not familiar. As a cut flower they take special care, so if you plan on using in arrangements, I recommend checking out this post by Erin of Floret Flower Farm.

Wreaths, Centerpieces + Garlands!

It's takes just one look at the spectacular colors outside tell us that fall has arrived. Photosynthesis has been busier than ever helping people celebrate life’s special events.  It was an unexpected delight to get a call from R Home Magazine asking me to design and write DIY instructions for creating a holiday wreath, centerpiece and garland for their Nov/Dec issue.

Grapevine wreath made with air plants, eucalyptus pods, a dahlia and greenery.

If you are too busy or disinclined to create your own arrangement, Photosynthesis is happy to help.  Our 2013 Holiday Collection of centerpieces, wreaths and garlands will be available for pickup on November 27th and on Dec 23rd.

Centerpieces range from $35-$95
Wreaths range from $35-$95
Garlands range from $15-$35 a linear foot

At this time all arrangements are available for pick up only.  Depending on demand, we may be able to accommodate deliveries inside Richmond city limits.  For more information, please contact me at rhea@photosynthesis.bz or 804-319-7765.

Happy Flowers

This arrangement of these amazing coral and creme dahlias, ranunculus and globe amaranth made me really happy.  You know it's a great combination when you find yourself smiling as you are putting it together.  Each little amaranth is like a celebration!
